How to check a business before you buy
Five quick checks that tell you whether a company is trustworthy before you hand over money.
Before you commit to any service, a few minutes of checking can save a great deal of money and stress.
1. Confirm the legal entity. Look for a registered company name and number, and check it matches the trading name.
2. Read recent reviews, not just the best ones. Patterns matter far more than individual scores.
3. Ask for written terms. A reputable business will happily confirm price, scope and cancellation terms in writing.
4. Check insurance and accreditation. Ask for evidence rather than accepting a logo on a website.
5. Pay in a way that protects you. Card payments and traceable transfers give you far more recourse than cash.
